Jessica's Story – An Artistic Journey to Baby

jes

The journey of infertility is not a one size fits all experience. Each and every person’s story is unique and so real. Today we are sharing Jessica’s story. Jessica and her husband are high school sweethearts and have created a life together from a very early age. As they grew together it eventually became time for them to think about adding a baby to the mix. Unfortunately, they have encountered a bump in the road to conception. They will have to go through IVF to conceive. IVF is costly and not an expense many are prepared for. Jessica has taken a creative direction to help with the cost. She is an artist and is using her talents to fund their IVF.

Jessica’s Story

My husband and I found each other during our sophomore year in high school. We were each other’s first relationship. We were only 21 when we were married on 3/20/2010 . Having our own children was always a dream of ours. I’m the oldest of four, he is the youngest of three.

After three years of trying and many false hopes we ventured to the doctor. We began medications only to find out that there was no sperm present and we would be unable to naturally conceive. We had a surgery scheduled for a potential harvest. After delving deep within ourselves and hearing so many stories of hardship and struggle from so many other people, we prayed and prayed. The surgery was over an hour long, however the doctor was able to harvest enough sperm for eight IVF attempts. A childhood surgery caused a blockage, but we had what we needed to take the next turn on our journey.

Of course with IVF comes financial struggles. I work at a veterinary clinic, my husband, for a communications company. I also create artwork as a hobby and was able to start an art campaign to raise money for our cause through social media. We began to share our story and have been welcomed with such amazing generosity and love from the IVF community, family and friends. We have applied for a grant with The Starfish Infertility Foundation and are continuing to do all we can to make our dreams come true. With the coming year we will begin injectable hormones and start with the egg retrieval procedure and moving on to embryo implantation for our first IVF attempt. Although our journey is just beginning, we have experienced so much in our many years together. We were each other’s first loves. High school sweethearts and best friends. We are looking forward to creating a family of our own.
